Each amount is set by board regulation: 16 CCR s. 811(a)(1), 16 CCR s. 811(b)(1), 16 CCR s. 811(c)(1) and 16 CCR s. 811(c)(2), read on September 2, 2026. Bus. & Prof. Code s. 7137 sets the ceilings those amounts may be raised to. The fee for sitting an exam is not among them: s. 7137(a)(2) puts it at no greater than the actual cost of administering the exam, paid by the applicant directly to the organization that conducts it. A veteran who was not dishonorably discharged pays half the initial license fee (s. 7137(a)(3)(D)). A retake also costs 21 calendar days before you may sit again.
